Gertie Floyd Smith was not only my cousin and friend, but as a young girl she was my Sunday School teacher and sponsor in the local Debutante Cotillion. She maintained that same helpful Christian spirit her entire life. I marveled at the way Gertie and her siblings cared for their parents and grandmother while lovingly providing for their individual households. Everything Gertie did she did with grace and perfection. She was extremely intelligent and humble. Gertie enjoyed her life’s work, her church, her sorority and serving as president of our family reunion and checking on elderly members. She touched my life in so many ways. I will cherish the memories. Gertie came from a tight knit family. Blessings to Jasmine and Alexander. You were her world. Please find encouragement in Psalm 121. Sincerely, Anita Sweeney
